And now... THE PORTFOLIO BIT!

(Updates as it goes along, folks...)

SOLENT CREATIVES - Christmas Card (November 2016)

The team at Solent Creatives gave me an opportunity to design their Christmas Card for their end-of-the-year video. To make it more like Solent itself, this Christmas design (which can be seen on the video) features the Solent Spark logo for the star on the Christmas tree. Other designs, that were not being used, included elements to the Pod inside the new Spark building at Southampton Solent Universty. The alternative version of the Santa Sleigh design included legs from the Pod, despite my objections. I mean, who wanted to see Santa's sleigh with legs stuck to the floor, then?

You can see the finished product at 1:15 on the video below.

BOARD IN THE CITY - Pillar Paint Project (June/July 2016)

Formerly known as the 'Dorchester Arms' public house, the 'Board in the City' community cafe is enjoyed by gaming nerds, since its opening around March 2016. During my time there as a customer, I believed that the white pillar on the left side of the bar was looking quite plain. So, after much thinking, I did the sketches and they were approved for painting. After which, I put on the design on the pillar with pencils, and then weeks later, I put on some colouring on, using paints, and some lining on with a few thick black markers.

The quote was from 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' by Douglas Adams.

SOUTHAMPTON CITY YOUTH PARLIAMENT - Logo (2009)

During my first year at Southampton City College, I have entered the competition for the logo design for the former Southampton City Youth Parliament.

I posted my entry through someone at the door of the address, probably because during that time, there was probably a postal strike. Later on, I was notified that my design was chosen by the SCYP members, around that time.

Later that year, I have decided to join the Youth Parliament, and stayed on until the actual thing was finished, a few years later, possibly due to cutbacks or something.

FORMER BARGATE SHOPPING CENTRE - Hoardings (2014/15)

During my first year at Southampton Solent University - School of Art and Design, the first things that my year group have done were to sketch some things that we see around the Old Town of Southampton, Tudor House Museum and SeaCity Museum.

Months later in late March 2015, those sketches made it onto the hoardings of the former Bargate Shopping Centre and the former Bar-Risa, to spice up the eye-sore. Unfortunately, a few months later, a few homeless people were living under one of the shelter parts and was later covered up. My sketches on the hoardings were the side of Tudor House, the key to Room 407 at South Western House, the old Tudor House Museum sign and the pocket watch of a Titanic steward. The watch stops at ten minutes to two, which was about half an hour, before the Titanic sinks, during its maiden voyage. These hoardings were taken down during the demolition of the former Bargate Shopping Centre, around May 2018.

BOARD IN THE CITY - Graphics (2018-19)

Since April 2018, I have been volunteering on Saturday afternoons at Board in the City, on which it was mentioned earlier on the portfolio page. What I do on the What's On board is getting some input on what's going on and then, with an aid of a chalk pen, write down on the board, using graphics and logo references.

It's a little tricky, getting some parts right (especially the Dungeons and Dragons logo), but in the end, it was all worth it. The board keep getting updated at certain times. From late March to early July 2019, due to a work placement with Wheatsheaf Trust, the volunteering was expanded from six hours on a Saturday afternoon to a 16-hour a week part time job.
